Muscle Testing and Applied Kinesiology

What is a Muscle?

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is functional muscle testing used as an aid in diagnosis and in determining the best treatment for each individual. AK is one of the most comprehensive systems in health care due to its incorporation of multiple branches of healing including Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Nutrition, Muscle Therapies, and emotions.
Our muscles have specific functions that can thereby be tested with extreme accuracy. In a state of neutrality muscles should fully contract and be "strong", when there is some form of dysfunction in the body muscles that should be "strong" can test "weak." This "weakness" is not because the muscle can't function or because you are a weak person, but because there is some form of interference in the body that is decreasing the circuits relaying to that muscle. This is how we can then determine an area in the body which needs support, and now we can test different treatments to determine what kind of support is needed.

Once the weak/sick body systems have been identified, clinical nutrition analysis is used to identify the supplements to be used, the dosage, and the length of time they need to be taken.

IFC (Interferential Current)

IFC therapy is a therapeutic modality that is used often in a chiropractor's office or a physical therapist's office. Sticky pads are placed around the painful area and a current passes through the area. The current penetrates deeper than other electrical modalities and has a number of physiological effects that have therapeutic value. These include increasing blood flow to the area, decreasing pain and promoting tissue repair.

Moist Heat

Moist heat relieves stiffness, improves circulation and brings relief to muscle pain and overall soreness. We use it as an adjunct to IFC to enhance healing and relief during treatment. It also prepares the area to be adjusted and often makes the adjustment much easier.

MET (Microcurrent Therapy)

Microcurrent is the application of frequency specific electrical currents to the injured part of the body. Microcurrent Therapy helps injured tissue heal faster and provides relief from pain caused by injury or chronic conditions. Microcurrent therapy is most valuable when combined with an individualized exercise program and chiropractic sessions.

TENS

A small, often handheld unit that provides electrical stimulation for pain relief. A TENS unit is a type of therapeutic modality typically used in chiropractic and physical therapy clinics. Many patients own a TENS unit and control pain at home. TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation.
